The moment you
approach X
Sector, the roar of Oblivion hits you like a bullet.
As you enter the mighty X-Sector, straight away your attention is drawn to
Oblivion's figure, high up in the sky. When you see a car being held over
the drop, the screams tell you what's up next! It is definitely not an area for the faint
hearted, it houses the world's first ever vertical rollercoaster - Oblivion
and other mighty rides such Enterprise, Submission and the Black Hole.
History of
the X Sector
The X Sector first started out back in 1980 as the Springfield Centre. It
housed a few attractions including The Pirate Ship (now Blade) and Cine
2000. The main food outlet was the Springfield Restaurant which served
American style fast food, typical to a modern McDonalds and stood in the
area now occupied by the Oblivion shop, and X-cite arcade.
In 1984
came a change of the area to Fantasy World and saw the opening of Black
Hole, Britain's first indoor dark) rollercoaster on the site where the
model dinosaurs had previously stood and the collection was moved to theme
the Log Flume. The next big development of the X Sector was in 1997 when
all the attractions in Fantasy World were removed except Black Hole and
the area was fenced up.
In 1998, Oblivion opened, the world’s first (and still only one
of two in the world) Vertical Rollercoaster, the B&M Dive Machine.
Oblivion was sure to put Alton and Tussauds on the Theme Park map
forever and the area was once again renamed to the X Sector.
