Previously the Grand Canyon Rapids, the water ride was renamed when the Runaway Mine Train was built in 1992 so that the two rides would comprise of Katanga Canyon, now known as the Congo River Rapids, the name is more suitable for the African settlement themed area. The Congo River Rapids was the new ride in the 1986 season.

It is a very hard ride to explain as everyone’s ride is different, but the following are some of the main features: The boarding station is like the one used on the log flume where boats enter and exit the huge circular station which rotates around allowing guests to easily get off and on the boats. The first part of the ride is great as someone is guaranteed to get soaked and it‘s really a bumpy start to a classic water ride which makes sure nobody comes off dry! Also two other main parts are the ‘waterfalls’ as I call them, either side of the huge moat are 5meter tall waterfalls which are more hazards to people especially to those who don’t want to get wet! Next, make sure you get ready for the camera (and pull a funny pose). When you exit the ride, the photo is directly in front of you.

On a very hot summers day, queues can reach nearly 2 hours by lunch time alone, so make sure if you want to make the most of the Congo River Rapids you get to the park early and ride the rapids before 11am.
