Katanga Canyon, based just behind Merrie England is themed on a small African settlement. The two rides, the Congo River Rapids and the Runaway Mine Train work really well in this area - both exploring the jungle like theming, meeting in the tunnel, half way round the rapid's course. Katanga Canyon is definitely one of the best family areas in the park and is good place to meet for lunch if the thrill seekers have gone off to Forbidden Valley and the small kids to Adventure land as there is a good selection of food outlets and the rapids is a great family ride after lunch.

History of Katanga Canyon

Katanga Canyon was originally part of Aqualand before the area was split into four separate parts. Aqualand hosted both the Log Flume and the Grand Canyon Rapids as its major attractions. In 1992, when Katanga Canyon was built the rapids saw a new name and a total new theme, and the Runaway Mine Train was built to add to new impressively themed African settlement.
