The
2004 season saw Alton Towers open a Maurer Soehne spinning
rollercoaster in Adventure land, called Spinball Whizzer. The
spinning coaster is themed as a giant pinball machine, with the
metallic silver trains acting as the balls. 'Spinball Whizzer' is a
custom designed coaster with specially developed four-person cars
which will spin guests around determined by the weight and number of
riders.
Spinball Whizzer gives every rider a unique experience, due to the
spinning cars, but bear in mind the stop and start nature of the
track layout and positioning of brakes can lead to a rough and
uncomfortable ride. Spinball Whizzer is a very popular family
rollercoaster and the loading throughput of the ride is slow;
meaning queues often exceed an hour all day.
